Holidays and court closures
California judicial holidays under CCP 135 are always skipped, including Lincoln's Birthday, Cesar Chavez Day and Native American Day.

How the deadline is counted
- Start on the date of entry. For a judgment already renewed once, use the date the last renewal application was filed.
- Add 10 years. That is when the enforcement period ends.
- File on a court day on or before that date. If the 10-year date is a weekend or court holiday, the calculator moves back to the last court day so the filing is not late.

After filing
The judgment is renewed when the application is filed, and the new 10-year period runs from that filing date (CCP 683.120(b)). The judgment creditor must serve notice of renewal on the debtor (CCP 683.160). The debtor then has 30 days after service to move to vacate or modify the renewal (CCP 683.170).

When must I renew a California judgment?
Before the 10-year enforcement period ends. File on a court day on or before the 10-year date.
How often can a judgment be renewed?
As often as needed, but not within 5 years of a previous renewal (CCP 683.110(a)).
Do I need a court hearing?
No. The clerk enters the renewal when you file the application. The debtor may later move to vacate it.
