How to use the calculators, read the results and manage your account.
Using a calculator
- Find the right calculator. Search on the home page by rule, court or a word like "answer" or "appeal".
- Enter the trigger date. This is the date the rule counts from, such as the date of service or the date a judgment was entered. The label tells you which date to use.
- Read the result. The red box shows the deadline. Underneath, each step shows how the date was reached.
- Save it. Use Add to calendar to download a calendar file with a reminder the day before, or Copy result to paste the date and steps into an email or note.
Holidays and court closures
Each calculator skips the legal holidays for its court system. Some, like the Texas calculators, let you add a day the clerk's office was closed for weather or an emergency. Check the court's notice to confirm the closure extends deadlines before you rely on it. The methodology page lists the holiday sources we use.
PDF reports and Professional
Calculations are always free. A PDF report gives you a formatted, time-stamped record of one calculation. Professional adds saved calculations, matter folders and calendar feeds. See pricing.
Common questions
Why is the deadline later than I expected?
Look at the steps. A weekend, a legal holiday or a closure you added may have moved the date forward. Each move is listed with its reason.
Why does the date picker show a different format?
Your browser shows dates in your device's regional format. The calculation is the same either way.
Nothing happens when I enter a date.
The calculators need JavaScript. Check that it is turned on, or try another browser.
Does the calculator know my local court's closures?
It knows the legal holidays for that court system. Weather and emergency closures are not included, so add them yourself where the calculator allows it.
How do I get a refund?
