  • Rule 6(1) extension or abridgment by the Court, a judge or the Registrar; r 8(1) allows a party to be excused from complying with any Rule.
  • Rule 71(4) is not a period for "the service and filing of documents", so the r 5.1 December recess exclusion arguably does not apply to it; the r 5(3) July suspension is also framed around service and filing. Treat both suspensions as inapplicable and flag for human review. Related hearing rules: no more than two counsel per appellant or respondent and one per intervener may argue (r 71(1)(a)); a respondent or intervener who filed its factum late may not argue orally absent a judge's order (r 71(3)).
