- 2009 r 5(1)-(4): "The Registrar may extend or shorten any time limit set by these Rules or any relevant practice direction (unless to do so would be contrary to any statutory provision)", on application or of the Registrar's own motion, and "An application for an extension may be granted after the time limit has expired." 2009 r 5(5) gives an AUTOMATIC extension where public funding has been applied for - see the separate entry.
- APPLICABILITY: JCPC Rules 2024, r 63 provides that "Unless the Judicial Committee or the Registrar directs otherwise, the rules in the Schedule to the Judicial Committee (Appellate Jurisdiction) Rules Order 2009 ... shall continue to apply to - (a) appeals which were proceeding before these Rules came into effect; (b) applications for permission to appeal and notices of appeal filed under rules 11 and 18 of the 2009 Rules before these Rules came into effect." The 2024 Rules came into force on 2 December 2024. Route any matter commenced before that date to this group. Computation under the 2009 Rules uses r 5(6) (Registry roll-forward only); the 2009 Rules likewise contain no express first-day rule.
