- Rule 16(2): "If the applicant fails to comply with the requisitions within that period, the registrar may cancel the application or may extend the period when this appears to him to be reasonable in the circumstances." Extensions are commonly granted on a reasoned request, but cancellation is a real risk and, if the application was protected by an official search, cancellation destroys the priority.
- 20 working days is a statutory minimum only; diarise the date on the requisition. Rule 216A(4)(c) extends this period for any certified interrupted working day. Rule 16(3) separately allows rejection on delivery, or cancellation at any time, of a substantially defective application.
