- A dedicated extension route exists. CPR 73.7(3): any application for an extension of time for service must be made to the Civil National Business Centre and will be dealt with without a hearing. Extensions are granted readily on paper where sought in time. If neither service nor an extension application happens, CPR 73.10(6B) requires a legal adviser either to make an unless order or to refer the matter to a judge to consider dismissing the application and discharging the interim order. So the sanction is real but not automatic.
