  • The practice directions may specify a different time, which prevails over the 28-day default.
  • Corrected on verification: the researched catalogue asserted that 'section 111(4A) provides that a failure to provide the notices in paragraphs (2)(c) to (d) within time does not affect the validity of the decision'. Section 111 and its 28-day default were confirmed against Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024 (Cth) Compilation No. 5, but the existence and content of a subsection (4A) could not be confirmed, so the validity-preservation claim has been removed rather than restated. Do not tell a practitioner that late notice is harmless on the strength of this entry. Also corrected: the operative practice direction for migration, protection and character matters is now the Administrative Review Tribunal (Migration, Protection and Character) Practice Direction 2026, which superseded the 2024 practice direction; the Common Procedures Practice Direction applies more generally. Always check the current practice directions before relying on the 28-day default. This section is displaced for migration and protection reviews by Migration Act 1958 (Cth) ss 368 and 368A.
